Creating a tranquil space at the heart of the building

Meet the Esther Simpson Building; phase three of a multi-million-pound project to develop the University of Leeds’ new Business School and School of Law Building.

At the heart of this new, technology-rich environment is the building’s cafe – the newly designed space needed to offer a contrasting sense of tranquillity, wellbeing and calm. Plus provide the building’s users with an opportunity to relax and restore.

An oasis of calm

Vantage Spaces worked in close partnership with Interior Designer Kyle Joseph Minnock to use biophilic design to equip the students with a cafe where they can sit back and unwind outside of their demanding lectures.

To achieve this, our greenery became one of the most prominent features of the space. We provided a variety of over 150 live plants and a panoramic living green wall. Our all-encompassing biophilic package helped Kyle balance the technology-rich environment with an 'oasis of calm' for students present and future.
