Transforming workspaces with the power of planting
Recent project favourites from the team
We get to transform some amazing office spaces in the course of our work, from funky dot com businesses to more formal pared-back environments. We’re passionate about planting design here at Vantage and its power to create spaces where people love to be. We all have our favourite projects – we asked our team to talk about their memorable projects and what stood out for them most.
Convene
22 Bishopsgate, London
Convene really stands out as a project for me because I just love the garden oasis feel, which really adds warmth to a very large space. This is what we would call a hospitality-infused workplace – somewhere where you feel encouraged to dwell. Large clusters of floor-standing plants in different heights complement the soft seating and deep green bar, creating a beautifully cohesive space. I can really imagine people connecting and collaborating in this space, because it’s so welcoming.

London
This is a really modern workspace with an amazing replica tree immediately in your sightline as soon as you come through the entrance. The replica tree has living plants at the base, and the combination really works. I think this space is perfect for showing off the versatility of biophilia – there will always be spots in a space that aren’t ideal for living plants, but by cleverly combining living plants with nature walls, hanging preserved plants and replica plants, you can create an amazing biophilic design that makes a real impact. Also, when installing biophilia for the benefit of your workforce, you want to ensure that everyone gets the benefit, not just those in certain areas, so combining living plants with preserved and replica ones is a really good way of doing this. I really liked the bespoke joinery in this design as well, reinforcing the natural, organic feel of the planting.

Vantages Spaces Showroom
London
I might be a bit biased, but I absolutely love our new London showroom and urge anyone contemplating incorporating biophilia into their office to come and see it for inspiration! The living wall and tabletop garden really stand out for me, but you get to see them in a workplace setting which is really important if you want to make an impact in your own workspace. We have something for every type of space, and I think it helps potential clients visualise how it will look in their office and encourages them to be bolder in their choices. I love seeing people’s reactions when they see what planting can do!

TDX/Equifax
Nottingham
I love the bold sweeps of curved joinery in this office space – the planting is literally part of the fixtures and fittings, and it divides the space up really well without losing the open plan vibe. It’s a great way of integrating planting whilst being very space efficient – the lines and the planting almost guide you through the space; they’re clean and unfussy but organic at the same time. I love that the client went all out on built-in planting – it’s a very confident design. You can sit in a breakout area, right by a window with a mixed planting scheme right in front of you – what a great space to take time out from your desk.

Montagu
2, More London Riverside
I was blown away by Montagu’s riverside office in London. It has a much-deserved SKA rating and spectacular views of London Bridge. It has the perfect blend of biophilic design throughout the workspace, meeting rooms and collaboration areas. The Scandi-style reception has a permanent slatted wood desk planter with monstera spilling out of it, and a huge preservedmoss wall leads you up a sweep of stairs. Careful use of planted furniture, such as desk-end cabinets and leafy ParaVert screening, provide just the right amount of zoning and protection from central walkways. Greenery is cleverly tucked into spaces – like the EnviroGrid plant hanging system above the teapoint and the moss panel integrated into one of the central pillars. Montagu embraced sustainable, natural planters and our fly-free EnviroLeaf planting system throughout their office, and it really reflects their sustainable philosophy. Their communal space is a superb spot to kick back and enjoy a coffee amongst lush planting whilst admiring the view. A workspace truly of the future!

Hogan Lovells
10 Fleet Place, London
I really love this project because it encapsulates the idea of using biophilia to provide a space where people can relax and decompress. Being a busy law firm, Hogan Lovells were keen to make their 7th floor kitchen and communal area an oasis of calm where workers can take time out to relax and recharge. The interior design is clean and minimalistic, but the planting design is wild and jungle-like – it’s a brilliant contrast and the planting softens what might look a bit harsh and clinical on its own. I was really struck by Hogan Lovells’ focus on the wellbeing of their workers, and of course, biophilia is proven to have a positive effect on physical and mental health, resulting in a happier, more productive workforce and great staff retention. The lush foliage combined with natural light streaming through the windows and the light orbs (which I thought resembled the moon!) makes their communal area a really calm and serene space to be. It’s the kind of office you’re happy to come into every day.
