The showroom demonstrates what a people centred, biophilic workspace can look like. Visitors are taken on an immersive journey where they can discover innovative concepts and ideas, enjoying green oases, pops of colour and interesting focal points along the way.

How the experience came about

The project kicked off when Spacestor engaged San Fransisco design firm, Gensler, to concept-design the overall space. This was to be no ordinary showroom — something really special was required to provide visitors with a truly immersive experience. Biophilia was to have a leading role, and Vantage collaborated with Gensler and Spacestor from the outset, creating a complementary biophilic scheme that integrated seamlessly with the core design elements. We were keen to showcase the versatility of our biophilic products so that visitors could visualise planting within their own space.

Planting can be used in so many ways:
– to screen or hide unsightly elements such as pipework
– to enhance social areas
– to create zones for collaborating, creating or contemplating
– to stimulate the senses and create focal points of interest

The starting point was essentially a large blank canvas, with no internal walls or partitions. The challenge was to create a sensory journey through this space using only Spacestor modular furniture and Vantage planted products. We worked closely with the fitout teams to ensure that every detail of the planting chimed in tune with the overarching design.

Our biophilic scheme

The design team started out as we do with every biophilic scheme, looking carefully at both aesthetics and functionality that the planting needed to provide. In every area of the space, the objective is to provide a stimulating connection with nature that also enhances the layout and appearance of the environment.

Mixed medium for maximum impact

Greenery is incorporated throughout the showroom, effectively demonstrating how every type of zone within a workspace can be significantly enhanced with planting. And like any office space, this is a mix of living, preserved and replica planting, because every office has a mix of light and areas that are hard to reach or maintain.

Floor-standing tropical specimens sit tall and proud, whilst hanging replica planting dangles delicately over a social space, or softens inaccessible ceiling spaces. A preserved nature wall turns an uninteresting support column into a green oasis, without taking up a jot of extra space. A planted stone bowl creates a focal point hanging artfully within an aperture, and rope-suspended planters help to create a homely feel in this relaxation area.

Palisades as a display space

A mainstay of the finished showroom is the use of palisades throughout the space. Both modernist and minimalist, they provide structure and visual interest, whilst maintaining a light and airy feel, allowing views through to the hustle and bustle of London life. The clean lines, simplicity of design and geometric shapes lend an energetic industriousness to the space. This is balanced by the softness of natural planting around the structures, as well as the use of curved archways and coloured spheres hanging from the ceilings. Filled with lush planting boxes, interesting lighting and objets d’art, the palisades provide structure, partitioning and display space in an all-in-one solution.

A place to congregate

This space is all about people, and as visitors wander through the space, each zone shows what office life could look like. A place to share a cosy coffee with a colleague, a large raised bar for socialising after hours, or simply spreading out and brainstorming ideas. A soft seating area is made for kicking back and winding down. It’s our job to create inviting spaces, and in our showroom, every single zone is enhanced with planting according to its purpose, helping to set the scene for the proposed activity.
